On June 27, 2019, “The Georgian Times” attended the international event in Beijing, the capital city of the People’s Republic of China, where the Organization “Belt and Road Economic Partnership” was founded. As a result, “The Georgian Times” became one of the co-founders and its President Malkhaz Gulashvili co-chair of BREIP. In connection with the mentioned fact, ”The Georgian Times Media Holding” was awarded the certificate of membership. The statute of the organization and information cooperation platform was officially approved during the meeting.
BREIP is initiated by Xinhua News Agency of the People’s Republic of China with the aim to sharing the micro economic information with the countries which pass “One Road – One Belt” Route: together with Xinhua, the co-founder of the organization became the source of information for 32 mass media outlets from 26 countries. In his speech Zai Minjao General Director of Xinhua said that BREIP is intended to create a contract bureau in terms of exchanging economic information. According to the statute, China’s News Agency Xinhua will provide the main resources of the organization, manage news platform and deliver the technical services for it.
As far as it is known, “One Road – One Belt” initiative which was raised by the leadership of the People’s Republic of China in 2013, combines “Silk Road Economic Belt” and “21st Century Marine Silk Road” projects and is meant to conclude memoranda of mutual understanding with the countries located on the European transport routes. Georgia is among these countries.
Simon Kiladze – Director of Analytical Department of “The Georgian Times” spoke about the importance of the event and the forthcoming plans:
“The event was held in frames of the Information and Economic Cooperation “One Road-One Belt” . From legal point of view, the new organization BREIP – Belt and Road Economic Information Partnership was founded at the event.
The organization brings together the representatives of mass media from 26 countries across the globe. As for our country, it is represented by “The Georgian Times”.
By the way, one of the representatives was from Nigeria from Africa. Nigeria is the West coastal country of Africa. It has a huge port in the Atlantic Ocean and desires to make use of “Marine Silk Road”.
The foundation of the aforementioned organization means exchange of economic information among 26 countries. The information includes tourism, agriculture, industry, trade, economic relations etc. I believe we need to pay a special attention to transport alongside with the other fields because Georgia has the transit function as well as potential of tourism and foreign investments.
The event was held at the initiative of Xinhua News Agency which is the major news agency of the People’s Republic of China. The speakers introduced the goals, prospects, nuances of the organization how we get connected to each other and the results which might be yielded via the information exchange in the end. The hosts persuaded us that the initiative is very beneficial and positive” – Simon Kiladze said.
China’s New Agency Xinhua is the country’s largest and financially most powerful media source founded in November 1931 which has branch offices in 105 countries throughout the world.
